The Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has decided to include a mandatory six months compulsory internship for engineering course students in order to complete the degree program. The internship will carry a total weightage of 12 credit points.
The varsity will make the internship program mandatory for final-year engineering students. GTU’s decision will affect over 30,000 final-year students of the university who are pursuing civil or mechanical engineering.
In accordance with the internship decision, students failing to complete the mandatory internship will not be eligible to receive their degree certificates for the Gujarat Technological University Engineering Program 2021.
As of now, the university has over 12,000 students who are pursuing civil or mechanical engineering courses. With the announcement of the mandatory internship program, the students will now be applied to the student’s program curriculum.
While talking about the internship program, the GTU Vice-Chancellor Navin Sheth stated that the decision was taken after reviewing various complaints received regarding the discrepancies in the current internship format of Gujarat Technological University (GTU).
As per the complaints, the GTU students were offered internship certificates despite completing the internship duration, and not following the internship duration and schedule.
Further, students were also found submitting projects which were brought from the market. These allegations were reviewed by the university authorities before making the final decision on the mandatory internship program.
In order to offer various internship programs to engineering students, the Gujarat Technological University has collaborated with firms and associations. Under this partnership, the university will now develop a website to take reports of students’ weekly progress from the company.
