New Delhi: In a probably overlapping DU Law Examination schedule, the law students of Delhi University found themselves on the verge of sitting for two examinations within a month’s gap. 

The confusion started as the DU Law Examination for the first and second year’s students was halted and they were automatically promoted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Now, by the latest Unlock 5 rules, Universities are going to reopen from 15 October and the tentative physical classes are to be started from November.

Hence, the students are facing a probability of two examinations, one that is due from their previous semester, and the other from their current semester, to be conducted within December.

During the peak of the pandemic, failing to conduct DU Law Examination, University promoted all of its first and second-year law students to their respective second and third academic year on the basis of their individual academic record. 

On the contrary, the Bar Council of India passed a verdict on 9 June 2020 stating first and second-year law students, even if promoted, must sit for the end semester examinations they were exempted earlier when the situation improves. 

The key points of the statement include:

• At no cost, law students will be considered to continue their education without passing the end semester examinations.
• After the reopening of the colleges and Universities, Universities must conduct the end semester examination within a stipulated time. 
• All the students must pass the due examinations, even if they continue to study in their new year.
• All the Law students are to be awarded their degrees upon successful completion of all their semesters only.

While students are panicking over the consecutive examinations to happen within a very cramped amount of time period, they are even preparing for submitting a petition requesting to reconsider their DU Law Examination situation.

On a positive note, the Law faculties are assuring by silver lining the fact that BCI has not stated any rules regarding the dates of the pending DU Law Examination. 

The Universities will consider the uniqueness of the scenario and will be conducting the due examinations as per the convenience of the students. 

The final year Law students are exempted from these newly coined DU Law Examination rules. because they already gave their examination via the Open Book Examination method.
