September 14, 2021: Delhi University (DU) is now preparing to offer new courses in line with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) levels. 

The new programs have been approved by the standing committee of Delhi University and are now awaiting approval from the executive council. With the launch of new courses, seat intake will also increase in various DU affiliated colleges

At present, Delhi University has a total of 70,000 seats for its UG courses across 63 of its affiliated colleges. The university has recorded a total of 4,38,696 for the UG admission process for the academic session 2021-2022. 

With the addition of new courses, Hansraj College admission seat intake for the BA program is expected to increase from 50 to 80, with additional 30 seats in each BA (Honors) Journalism and Mass Communication and BA (Honors) Music course respectively. 

DU affiliated Deshbandhu College, Bharati College, and Aditi Mahavidyalaya are preparing to offer UG courses with 40 seats each, while Vivekananda College will offer an MA English course from the next academic session with a total of 12 seat intake. 

In Zakir Husain College (Evening) of DU, the seat intake is expected to increase from 15 to 40 for the next academic session. As of now, the college has a total admission seat intake of 69,554, which will be increased by 600 seats with the addition of new courses. 

Additionally, PGDAV College (Evening) will introduce a BA English with 40 admission seat intake, and an MA Hindi course with 16 seats respectively.

Other Delhi University affiliated colleges, such as Dyal Singh College (Evening), Shyam Lal College, Janaki Devi Memorial College, and Bharati College are now preparing to offer the BSc Computer Science program from the next academic session 2022. 

As for Ramanujan College, BSc in operational research course is expected to start from the next session. The programs will be offered to students in accordance with the NEP 2020 from academic session 2022.

Meanwhile, Delhi University's Standing Committee on Academic Matters has recently approved the implementation of NEP 2020 in DU’s upcoming four-year program. The program will be offered to students from the academic session 2020-2023. 

The decision to implement NEP 2020 in Delhi Unversity's upcoming courses was taken by the university council during a meeting conducted on August 31, 2021. 

This year, DU received a total of 4,38,696 registration for UG courses which offer only 70,000. Registrations for DU Admission 2021 have ended on August 31, 2021 for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Hence, students are now waiting for the first merit list, which is expected to be out by October 01, 2021.
