New Delhi: Central University of Odisha has announced the establishment of a digital tribal literacy centre in partnership with the Forum for Integrated Development and Research. During a virtual programme, University registrar Asit Das signed a three-year MoU with the research and development organisation.
Acting Vice-Chancellor S K Palita stated at the meeting that the university in the Koraput district would offer a digital literacy programme to students from tribal and marginalised groups in the region with the help of the R&D institution.
It will help them gain digital skills and eventually become self-employed, according to Palita.
FIDR director Charudatta Panigrahi said, "The proposed centre will fulfil required soft skill education of the region and will boost economic empowerment of youths".
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the establishment of the digital literacy centre during the Central University of Odisha's 13th foundation day ceremony on August 29, last year.
CUO has previously signed an MoU with the Council of Analytical Tribal Studies (COATS), Koraput, for three years to work on research and development pertaining to Odisha's tribals and tribal territories, particularly the undivided district of Koraput.
In the presence of CUO Vice-Chancellor In-charge SK Palita, COATS Professor Jagabandhu Samal, and officials and faculty members from both institutions, CUO Registrar Asit Kumar Das and COATS Director PC Mohapatra signed and exchanged the MoU.
While highlighting the MoU's interest in specific fields such as social sciences, biodiversity, and media, Palita emphasised the MoU's role in fostering the growth of society's marginalised groups.
