In the ranking released by the Ministry of Education, Central University of Odisha secured 20th rank.

The scores allotted to the universities are based on the evaluation of key parameters fixed under Memorandum of understanding (MoU) 2019-20.

In the list of 40 central universities, CUO bagged the 20th slot. In the total score of 283.5 marks, the university secured 171.8 marks, which makes it 61% of the total score. Other central universities like University of Allahabad secured 33 %, Visva-Bharati got 50%, which is lesser than Central University of Odisha.

The first position in the list is secured by Jamia Millia Islamia with a 90% score. Followed by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Arunachal Pradesh at the second position with a score of 83%. The third rank is filled by Jawaharlal Nehru University with 82%.

The Central University of Odisha was established under Central Universities Act, 2009, and is one of the 15 new Central universities established by the Government of India during the UGC XI plan period. 

CUO also achieved a rank between 151 and 200 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), CUO said that the count of female students is higher than the male students and the hostel accommodation, research publication and other facilities provided by the university have helped to secure a good score.
