MHRD has announced the dates for JEE Main and NEET 2020 last month after a series of postponements during the course of COVID-19 pandemic. While both the exams are scheduled to be held in the first and second week of September 2020. Parents’ Association (IWPA) is planning to file a PIL in Supreme Court against exam being conducted amidst the pandemic. The lawyer leading the case stated that their written request went unheard by Union Education Ministry and NTA, Therefore the association will move to Supreme Court likely by August 06, 2020.

Candidates and parents are not in full confidence whether the exams are going to be safe for appearing candidates or not. Several campaigns are circulating on social media platforms to cancel or search for an alternative for the exams. It must also be noted that many aspirants are not patient enough for another postponement and urge to appear the exam soonest. 

This dilemma has brought some worries for JEE Main and NEET 2020 aspirants along with their parents. The major concern of parents being- it's hazardous to conduct the national level exam amid COVID-19 since a steep surge is witnessed every passing month. In regard to the same Parents’ Association (IWPA) has written an open letter to the authorities to postpone the exam in this adverse situation to avoid any loss of life or Career. Parents quote that since these exams are the only chances to get into the premier institute they will be forced to travel to reach the exam centers where social distancing can be compromised. The parents want the authority to seek a better alternative in this pandemic so that it doesn't cause any life threat to the aspiring candidates.

Around 25 lakh candidates are going to appear for the national level exams, 10 lakh students are going to appear for JEE Main 2020 and 15 lakh for NEET 2020,  and maintaining proper hygiene and health security for such a large number of candidates is hard.

Steps taken by MHRD to safely conduct JEE Main and NEET 2020

Amidst the pandemic, MHRD ministry has recently taken some preventive measures to conduct the examination as delaying will affect the career of aspirants. The authorities have increased the number of exam centers to under populate the area so that the disease is less likely to propagate but it does not guarantee enough security, and even after increasing the number of exam centers a lot of candidates still have to commute for more than 100 km to reach the exam center.

The authorities have decided to follow the standard operating procedure making the mask and thermal screening compulsory while entering the exam center. The candidates with health issues like diabetes are already at risk at the exam center, Also the wearing mask continuously can cause asphyxiation for asthmatic candidates. Both the measures are not so satisfactory and hence creating worries for the parents and the aspirants.
