Discussing the achievements of BHU for the past year, Dr Rajesh Singh, Public Relations Officer of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) said the university has been granted Rs. 1000 crore under IoE Scheme.

The fund has been sanctioned to improve infrastructure, libraries, laboratories and research facilities for the next five years of BHU.

As a fact, the university now aims to be among the top 500 global universities. It plans to upgrade postgraduate departmental laboratories, build smart classrooms, expand international hostels and decorate the campus.

Work is progressing at jet-speed and at present, 110 rooms are ready for international hostels. These will attract more foreign students. Also, PG laboratories are being upgraded. 

Dr Singh further asserted, with a fund worth Rs 200 crore sanctioned by MHRD and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, BHU has set up a super-speciality block. It is well-equipped with pathology and biochemistry labs and operation theatres. 

After being inaugurated by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, it is currently functional and providing medical services of COVID patients.

Additionally, a stem cell research and bone marrow transplant centres along with a regional eye checkup clinic worth 32.5 crores have been set up.

The constant financial support from the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has aided in building a central discovery centre for basic practical science research as well.

Further, a SATHI centre has been structured in BHU which has an estimated cost of Rs 125 crore. This will set up a foreground for business, innovation as well as startups all under one roof. 

A Vedic Science centre dedicated to University research on connecting modern science with ancient Indian knowledge is planned to be laid out. This centre is projected to be an impactful source for connecting Vedas and its wider aspects for studying its effect on modern science and knowledge. 

Of late, BHU has tied up with Solar Energy Corporations to set up centres for solar energy and green energy in the campus as well. 

As Dr Singh says, BHU has about 369 projects worth Rs 157 crore underway for all-round development of the university.
