More than 10% of BDS and MBBS seats in Assam are still left vacant in medical colleges in the state. This number is astonishing because the first round of state NEET counselling and 2nd round of national NEET counselling has already finished.
Students from outside the state have shown low interest in taking admission in the all India quota this year. Assam has 7 medical colleges with a total of 1000 seats for MBBS and MDS admission that take part in national NEET counselling.

Das further added that students who had already enrolled will also be able to pick medical colleges in the choice filling round. He said, “Some students have given up their seats after taking admission. They might have got selected in some other colleges of their choice.”
Officials said that students from outside the state may not have applied as they were hesitant to travel during the Covid-19 induced lockdown.
