Our teaching and research covers a wide variety of themes, perspectives, time periods, and regions.

We specialise in the histories of New Zealand, the Pacific, Asia, Europe, Britain and Ireland and North America, and the art of the Medieval, Renaissance, Modern and Contemporary periods.?

Students can also study the worlds of advertising, television, film, and celebrity culture in the Visual Culture programme, which is housed within the department.
