The degree is complementary to traditional discipline-based majors (e.g. Anatomy, Biochemistry, Genetics, Human Nutrition, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology) currently offered within the Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree, but allows a more comprehensive and integrated approach to the field as a whole, along with a greater freedom of choice from a wider diversity of papers.
The degree aims at providing a sound and comprehensive grounding in the key principles underpinning modern biological and medical research. Many of our graduates successfully gain places in health professional programmes (medicine, dentistry, nursing, optometry, audiology, etc), or further their studies by continuing with a BBiomedSc(Hons) degree. Others will be found working in a range of careers across the spectrum of ?biomedicine? - from teaching to forensic analysis to government policy advisers.
The BBiomedSc Honours degree is a one-year, postgraduate programme. With its focus on hands-on biomedical research, it is an excellent choice for students wishing to continue on to PhD studies.
