The aim of the MSc in Applied Science - Geographical Information System & Remote Sensing programme from University College Cork is to provide training in the developing technologies that enable the acquisition, analysis and dissemination of spatial data. These technologies, as well as an understanding of spatial data infrastructures, data management and data use are essential for the responsibile management of Earth resources and global environments, and will be taught through a range of applications drawing on expertise from within UCC. Students will learn a variety of related skills including IT, computer programming, spatial data analysis, cartography and visualisation, and research methods.

Geographical, earth and environmental sciences are increasingly relying on digital spatial data obtained from remotely sensed imagery, analysed by geographical information systems and visualised on a computer screen.
