Intended Learning Outcomes of Major (MILOs)

  • Describe a range of key concepts in social science theories and appreciate their contribution to criminology and criminal justice;
  • Identify and criticize underlying assumptions and discover intervention steps of different types of informal and formal social control strategies;
  • Apply and analyse different perspectives for explaining social problems and criminal behaviour;
  • Evaluate the applicability of social science theories and develop innovative ideas in preventing crimes and creative ways of reducing re-offending in local context;
  • Evaluate the function and operation of social institutions and law enforcement agencies;
  • Conduct investigation of research independently; present research findings clearly and systematically to readers; and provide creative suggestions and/or solutions to crime prevention; and
  • Design programs, generate alternatives, invent ideas, and construct cost-effective means for achieving informal and formal social control.
