• The art history course covers the history of predominantly (western) European art since the end of antiquity. The subject of art history is a historical discipline and must be distinguished from other courses such as art education and fine arts. 
  • These are taught with different goals, contents and methods in other university areas or at art academies. Aesthetics is a sub-discipline of philosophy. 
  • In terms of content, there are intersections with the neighboring disciplines of classical archeology and Byzantine studies, but also with European ethnology and museology.
