• English and American Studies are generally understood to be the scientific occupation and engagement with the United States of America, Great Britain, Ireland and the countries of the Commonwealth.
  • The focus here is on the intensive, critical reading of literarily or culturally relevant texts. The study of English and American Studies at the University teaches in detail the grammar, literacy, and fluency of the English language, the production of English-language texts and the ability to express themselves verbally and in writing at a high level. 
  • The students receive a broad overview of selected topics and research areas from English Linguistics, English Literature, and Cultural Studies and American Studies. They acquire skills for the critical analysis and interpretation of literary texts in their historical and ideological context on the basis of the methods and working techniques of literary, cultural and linguistics.
