The field of German studies at the Faculty of Philosophy at Saarland University offers German as an (expanded) major or subsidiary subject in 2-subject bachelor's programs with the degree "Bachelor of Arts" (BA). The subject sees itself as a linguistic, literary, media and cultural science discipline and conveys both the main subject and the minor subject basic knowledge and skills from the sub-areas of older German philology (e.g. medieval literature, reading Middle High German texts), modern German literary studies including media studies and modern German linguistics (grammar, semantics, pragmatics).
