The subject "English: Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures" is offered as a major and minor subject in 2-subject Bachelor's degree programs at Saarland University. It is intended to enable students to communicate and culturally competent within the target cultures with their currently estimated 1.5 billion speakers and writers of the world language English. The aim of the course is to master the spoken and written English language as well as a basic overview of today's linguistics, as well as extensive knowledge of text types of the target cultures (literary texts, specialist texts, everyday conversation, etc.) as well as current research fields and techniques of electronic processing.
