Classical archeology sees itself as historically and art-historically oriented, interdisciplinary cultural studies. It deals with the material legacy of all areas of life in Greek and Roman antiquity, from the 2nd millennium BC to late Christian antiquity. Numerous marginal and neighboring cultures are also included, provided that they had a cultural relationship with ancient Greece and Rome. The subject of the subject is thus the roots of European (or oriental) art and culture, which are always recreated and reinterpreted at different times in the European West (but also in the Islamic Orient) and the critical tradition of their cultural memory.
