• The subject of the master's program Middle East Studies is the social, cultural and humanities development of the Middle East with a special focus on contacts between Jewish and Muslim cultural and social formations in the region in a synchronous and diachronic perspective.
  • Offered to the same extent by Islamic Studies at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Applied Sciences in Heidelberg, this master’s course is aimed equally at Bachelor graduates in Islamic Studies and Jewish Studies and related subjects with the corresponding source language components.
  • It provides a decidedly interdisciplinary approach to the historical diversity of the cultural and social formations within the region of the Near East and combines complexes of philological, historical, social and humanities methods. This combination is mapped in the module structure of the degree program primarily through the equal treatment of Judaic and Islamic content and language skills and supplemented by a sound methodological training in the areas of social, cultural and humanities that take into account the pluralism of methods of the two specialist traditions and the basis for interdisciplinary exchange.
