In the master's degree in teacher training in secondary education (M.Ed) students take two of the following teaching subjects: biology, chemistry, English, French, geography, German, Greek, history, informatics, Latin, mathematics, music, philosophy, physics, Protestant religion, Russian, social sciences, Spanish, sport, Turkish, and visual arts.
Students must already have studied these two subjects during their bachelor’s degree as the master’s program builds on the bachelor’s degree for a type 4 teaching career according to the KMK (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs).

There are no tuition fees for students. Only Semester contribution fee.

Following are the requirements for the program:

A bachelor’s degree meets the requirements for a type 4 teaching career according to the KMK (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs), i.e.,
- two teaching subjects in a combination permitted at Universität Hamburg
- subject-specific didactics in both teaching subjects
- educational science
- teaching placements
If the applicant is still completing her/his bachelor’s degree in teacher training, they must have obtained at least 120 credit points in modules when they apply for the master’s degree. They must also have registered for the bachelor’s thesis.
