- At the interface between experiment and theory, bioinformatics is a branch of computer science, in which methods from various areas of computer science are used and further developed for life science issues. The majority of these questions come from the fields of biology and medicine.
- Examples include the development of databases, statistical methods and efficient algorithms for the analysis of genome sequences, gene expression data, metabolic networks, image data or phenotypic characteristics of different organisms.
