The core of the program is research in the field of wood sciences. A wide variety of research projects are carried out in the departments of wood biology and wood products, wood technology and wood-based materials, forest botany as well as molecular biotechnology and forest genetics. One focus is on methods of wood modification, in which the swelling and shrinkage of the wood are minimized by interfering with the cell wall of the wood and the stability against UV radiation is to be increased. However, work on biotechnological and genetic engineering issues in connection with wood and wood-destroying fungi can also be carried out.
