The course is divided into two parts. In the first year of study, lectures, tutorials, seminars, methodological internships and individually supervised research projects take place within 36 weeks. Laboratory rotations and individual supervision as well as the involvement of lecturers from Max Planck Institutes in the courses guarantee practical relevance and intensive research. The first year of study concludes with one written and two oral exams, which qualify for the preparation of the master's thesis. This can be omitted in the case of good to excellent academic performance during the first year of study, so that the students can switch directly to the three-year doctoral program.
