The M.A. program in musicology teaches practices and methods for describing, analyzing, and critically evaluating works of music of all genres and periods and placing them in their cultural, political, economic, and social context. Special emphasis is placed on developing the students’ sensitivity and sense of judgment concerning the formal and aesthetic elements of these works and their significance. Analytical tasks train the students to express their practical listening experiences in words, thus building on the skills in composition and forming a mental image of music they acquired in the B.A.
