The master's degree in “Embedded Systems Engineering” teaches the skills to integrate hardware and software of computer-aided systems for a wide range of applications, for example in telecommunications (e.g. smartphones, node computers in networks), in robotics (e.g. distributed sensor and Actuator system), in automotive and automation technology and many other areas. Small but powerful computer systems are increasingly permeating human life, not only in industry but also in private life, and will increasingly shape it. This course prepares the graduates for the requirements of one of the great future technologies and their development in and for a global market.

For this purpose, the areas of hardware and software are offered in greater depth. By using computer-aided design and test procedures, students are prepared for the complex decision-making processes involved in the development and production of future, innovative products.

Since embedded systems are used in all areas of engineering, graduates have very good career prospects in leading positions, especially in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and the IT industry, but also the opportunity to do a doctorate at a German or foreign university with further work in research or a career in the academic field.

The fields of activity of the graduates lie in the conception of new products and services as well as the integration of circuit and software development. Areas of application are:

  • Analysis, project planning, and evaluation of novel systems through completely new developments or merging of already existing products with hardware and software components
  • Conception and development of new types of services and integration of existing services (e.g. in the areas of communication networks, distributed systems and multimedia and mechatronics)
  • System analysis and conception of application systems with a high proportion of processing and transmission of signals, e.g. in communication networks, in process control or in medical technology
