Polymer and colloid chemistry are areas of great economic importance. Polymers (macromolecules) can be found in plastics, modern fabrics, lacquers and much more. The spectrum of applications ranges from simple consumables to complex components for the automotive and aircraft industries to high-tech materials. Colloids are microscopic particles. They are used in cosmetics and detergents and cleaning agents, but also in modern pharmaceuticals and in nanotechnology.
