AP PGECET Eligibility Criteria 2023: General and Institute-wise Eligibility Requirements

    AP PGECET Eligibility Criteria 2023 is stated by individual colleges for all the courses for enrolling students through the engineering exam. Candidates are advised to check their eligibility before applying for AP PGECET 2023 There are nine universities affiliated to AP PGECET that will consider the exam scores for admission. AP PGECET 2023 tentatively be conducted in the first week of July 2023 in CBT mode. In order to analyse and check the status of your preparation, candidates can download AP PGECET Sample Papers for the exam.

    To be eligible for AP PGECET 2023, a candidate should 

    • have obtained a relevant Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in the relevant field from an AICTE/UGC-approved institution recognized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. 
    • A minimum of 50% marks (45% in case of reserved category candidates) are required by candidates for admission. 

    Students must however also note that mere appearance in AP PGECET 2023 does not automatically entitle a candidate to be considered for entry into any M.Tech./ M.Pharm./Pharm.D(PB) course unless the candidate satisfies the requirement of eligibility and other criteria for admission.

    AP PGECET 2023 Written Test Eligibility

    Candidates satisfying the following requirements shall be eligible to appear for AP PGECET 2023: 

    • They should be of Indian Nationality.
    • They should belong to the State of Andhra Pradesh, satisfying local/ non-local status. 
    • They should have obtained a relevant Bachelor's qualifying degree or its equivalent in the relevant field with at least 50% marks ( 45% in case of reserved category candidates) from an AICTE/UGC approved institution recognized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as equivalent.
    • Candidates who are pursuing a B.Tech or its equivalent / B.pharm. course shall be eligible for entry into the relevant M.E./M.Tech./ M.Pharmacy courses provided they have completed the prescribed course and passed all the subjects for the award of degree by the concerned university on the date of counselling for admission into the colleges.

    • AP PGECET qualifiers will be eligible to take admissions to their preferred courses.
    • Admission to 85% of the seats in each course shall be reserved for the local candidates.
    • And the remaining 15% of the seats shall be un-reserved seats as specified in the Andhra Pradesh Educational Institutions (Regulations and Admissions) Order, 1974 as subsequently amended.

    While filling up the seats in colleges, first preference will be given to GATE / GPAT qualifiers and the remaining seats with the candidates qualified in AP PGECET as per their merit ranks.

    AP PGECET Local and Non-Local Candidates

    Explanation of Local and Non-Local Candidates

    Given below is the meaning for both of the status as defined by the authorities:

    • A candidate for admission shall be regarded as a local candidate in relation to a Local Area:
      • If he/she has studied in educational Institution or educational Institutions in such local area for a period of not less than four consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he/she appeared or as the case may be, first appeared in the relevant qualifying examination, (OR)
      • Where, during the whole or any part of the four consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he/she first appeared for the relevant qualifying examination, he/she has not studied in any Educational Institutions, if he/she has resided in that local area for a period of not less than four years immediately preceding the date of commencement of the relevant qualifying examination in which he/she appeared or, as the case may be, first appeared.
    • A Candidate for admission to the Course who is not regarded as local candidate under clause (A) in relation to any local area shall be declared local to an area based on following criteria:
      • If he/she has studied in Educational Institutions in the State for a period of not less than seven consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he/she appeared or, as the case may be, first appeared for the relevant qualifying examination be regarded as a local candidate in relation to:
        • Such local area where he/she has studied for the maximum period out of said period of seven years, (OR)
        • Where the period of his/her study in two or more local areas are equal, such local area, where he/she has studied last in such equal period, or If, during the whole or any part of seven consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he/she appeared or, as the case may be, first appeared for the relevant qualifying examination, if he/she has not studied in the educational Institutions in any local area, but has resided in the State during the whole of the said period of seven years, be regarded as a local candidate in relation to,-
        • Such local area where he/she has resided for the maximum period out of the said period of seven years, (OR) 
        • Where the periods of his/her residence in two or more local areas are equal, such local areas where he/she has resided last in such equal periods.
    • The following categories of candidates are eligible to apply for admission to the remaining 15% of unreserved seats:
      • All the candidates eligible to be declared as local candidates.
      • Candidates who have resided in the State for a total period of 10 years excluding periods of study outside the State or either of whose parents have resided in the State for a total period of ten years excluding period of employment outside the State.
      • Candidates who are children of parents who are in the employment of this State or Central Government, Public Sector Corporations, Local Bodies, Universities and other similar quasi-public Institutions, within the State.
      • Candidates who are spouses of those in the employment of the State or Central Government, Public Sector Corporations, Local Bodies, Universities and Educational Institutions recognized by the Government or University OR other competent authority and similar quasi Government Institutions within the State.
