ISB Mohali Scholarship

The candidate has to apply for a scholarship after he gets the offer letter. For this, a separate Statement of Purpose has to be submitted, clearly stating why you would need a scholarship. In some cases, you may also need to submit supporting documents.

There would be ~900 individuals fighting for this - the competition is as usual high. But if your profile is sound and matching the requirements of the individual scholarships then you would get in without much struggle. Usually at most 30-40 people get any kind of useful scholarship.

However, Dean Madan has emphasized on making scholarships more prominent- and has started an alum fund- wherein the current class could contribute some amount to fund the education of upcoming batches.

ISB MBA Applicants for tuition waivers must submit proof of income for self, parents & spouse (if applicable) is mandatory to be eligible.

Myths around ISB Hyderabad vs ISB Mohali

Do Better students go to the Hyderabad campus?: ISB maintains a similar class profile and has a common admissions process for both campuses. The school follows an algorithm which helps them allocate students to the Hyderabad and Mohali campuses from the pool of admitted students. For instance, from every 9 students (based on rank / performance in the admissions process), 6 are allocated Hyderabad and 3 are allocated Mohali.

Do Hyderabad students get better placements?: While the school does not publish campus level statistics, there have been instances when placements at ISB Mohali were slightly better. In one of the recent placement seasons, one of the top consulting firms ended up selecting more students from the Mohali campus than the Hyderabad campus (unknowingly, as you are not allowed to disclose your campus during placements) .

Faculty at ISB Hyderabad is bette than ISB Mohalir? While most visiting faculty members from foreign schools visit both the campuses, some only visit the Mohali campus as the same course is taken by a resident faculty member at the Hyderabad campus. While both resident and visiting faculty at ISB is amongst the best in the world, the foreign faculty also brings their global research and consulting experience to the class at Mohali.

ISB Mohali Alumni

What alums have to say:

  • Vivek Arora, PGP Co'20, Partner at McKinsey – "ISB alumni community is far better than any other top B-schools. The caliber and knowledge ISB grads bring to organization is known all over the world"

How does alumni network helps?

ISB provides access to alumni portal wherein you could see profiles for every alum. In case you would require any help, you can directly reach out to alums. Also, the portal gives access to the email, wherein alums post any vacancies for ISB grads, since they prefer to take people from alma matter.

How do students remain connected with alums?

ISB hosts multiple events throughout the year, wherein current class invite alums for fest celebrations. Also, the community has city wise chapters and organise meetups on weekly basis.

He is an incredibly like-able individual with incredible knowledge.

Life at ISB Mohali

  1. Housing at ISB:

isb hostel

There are 3 hostels in ISB Mohali and 4 hostels at ISB hyderabad comprised of both- Quads and studios. A Quad is a 4BHK equivalent shared by 4 students and a studio is a 1 BHK equivalent taken by a student with family. You can hire a maid to do the cooking for you and also get your clothes washed, dried and ironed without troubling your muscles much, all this for a nominal fee. Then there is this 24hr room service, which you can avail if something needs to be taken care of in your quad/studio. Each SV also has a common room (hosting a party or a celebration), a laundry room, a printing room and a TT room.

The rooms are equipped with:

  • Living room: Sofa set, center table, chairs, TV along with a TV cabinet, whiteboard and a breakfast table.
  • Bedroom: Wi-Fi, LAN, intercom (in case of a Studio), study table, chair, wardrobe, AC and of course a cozy bed.
  • Modular Kitchen: Refrigerator, toaster, microwave oven, gas stove with cylinder, chimney and a complete crockery set.
  • Bathroom: A large mirror and an enjoyable shower
  1. Quads vs Studios

Costing: Studios: 2.2 LPA, Quads: 1.5 LPA (Included in the fees)

Students can opt to stay either in a ‘Quad’ wherein 4 students share a flat but have their individual bedrooms, or in a ‘Studio’, for a marginally higher fee, which is a 1 BHK apartment, often chosen by students who may have their husband/wife living on campus during the program

  • Pros of Studios: Ample space for 2 people to reside, studios owners are known for hosting parties at ISB. You get total control of how much you would want to interact with the outside world. If you feel that alone time is a thing for your survival, then go for a studio.
  • Pros of Quads: The quad members form strong bonds as the year progresses.
  • Negatives of Studios: If you consider yourself a social butterfly, studios might not be the best fit. It is usually seen, the quaddies become friends with other friends of quaddies and so on.
  • Negatives of Quads: You might face a lot of disturbance if other quaddies organize a party at your quad. Also, the kitchen utensils are limited, if not used thoughtfully- you might find yourself without cleaned utensils.
  1. Housekeeping at ISB:

What makes living at ISB a truly unique experience is its housekeeping service. ISB has outsourced this service to Sarovar, which professionally runs chains of Hotels pan India. Housekeeping staff clean all apartments every day and change bedsheets on request, thereby helping you to channel all your time and energy towards your personal and professional development. Imagine coming back all exhausted after back to back lectures and finding your bed made up like that at a star hotel! While this is something students miss the most once they are back into the world outside, the one year at ISB does get one the taste of living the “CEO life”

Cons of the college:

One of my friends is from the ISB Mohali campus. She is currently on an exchange term at Hyderabad. As I have visited both the campuses personally so have a decent understanding of the pros and cons for both.

Advantages at Hyderabad campus

  • Huge size of cohort: Anyone who is interested in a large network can create one with 600 students studying here. The other aspect is that you may not know everyone who studies here.
  • Extracurricular and social life: Due to the location advantage, the Hyderabad campus provides students with an opportunity to have a much more vibrant social life. There are various clubs and departments specifying different interests of the students.
  • Company presentations & interactions: Most of the placement interviews take place by Mohali joining in via VC at the Hyderabad campus. However, to communicate with all students, the major recruiters usually visit both campuses.

Advantages at Mohali campus

  • Faculty: Mohali campus is comparatively new, and it is located in a tier-2 city. However, the resident faculty on campus is quite less. This means that the school flies in some of the best faculty from colleges like Wharton, UNC, and Kellogg to teach.
  • Accommodation & Food: The student villages at Mohali are much better in terms of furnishing, rooms, and quality of housekeeping, as it is a new campus.

Compared to Hyderabad, the catering in Mohali is also much better, but this may be a temporary phenomenon.

Obtaining subjects of your preference. During the elective terms, ISB follows an online bidding system for courses. Given the size of the Hyderabad campus, there are limited bid points so students wishing to take all the popular courses is not possible. There is no issue like this in Mohali campus.

Placements: The school tries its hardest to balance both the campuses equally, so no trend in placements is observed. The campus placements for the Mohali students this year was better compared to Hyderabad, but Hyderabad has done better in the past.

My cousin belonged to the Mohali campus of ISB and during her exchange term, she observed and compared the pros and cons of both campuses. I have listed the major pros of both colleges.

ISB Hyderabad

  • Huge batch size ensures peers from a variety of backgrounds.
  • The location is helpful for the students to maintain a good social life
  • ISB Hyderabad has a wider range of student-driven clubs and committed
  • The placement presentations take place at the Hyderabad campus and Mohali students get to join through a video call only

ISB Mohali

  • ISB Mohali has very few resident faculty as it has been recently established. As a result, the institute calls in the best faculty from colleges like Wharton, UNC, and Kellogg to teach. Their pedagogy is unique and ISB Hyderabad lacks in this aspect.
  • The campus is new so the accommodation facilities are better and made to suit all the necessary requirements. These hostels have better furnishing, space, and housekeeping facilities in comparison to the hostels of ISB Hyderabad.
  • The small batch size ensures the quality over quantity belief
  • The choice of electives is done through online bidding at ISB. Hyderabad campus with its huge batch size makes it impossible for all the students to get their choice of electives. Mohali students, in turn, face no such problem because of the small batch size

ISB maintains a strict balance between both campuses and the placement statistics are a testament to that as no major differences can be observed.

Overall my cousin never regretted choosing Mohali over Hyderabad and recommends the same to everyone.

ISB Hyderabad's selection criteria lay great emphasis on Work Experience. The candidates are preferred and differentiated based on this aspect a lot here. To overcome this problem, ISB Hyderabad has come up with an Early Entry Option wherein candidates with little or no work experience can freely be evaluated on the basis of their academic performance, leadership potential, and personality attributes. Some highlights of the selection process of an Early Entry candidate are

  • The early entry applicants will have to in turn showcase their skills and capability by putting forward their goals, their prior achievements, and experiences, and why they are pursuing an MBA. An early-entry applicant has no work experience so his reason for MBA should be backed by strong goals.
  • Because your academic performance will be the major criterion of evaluating your profile, each and every aspect of the same will be checked thoroughly. Any flaws can pose a problem to your admission.
  • For an Early Entry applicant, his interview round is the most crucial as his personal attributes need to be evaluated which can be done through the interview only.

The best thing an Early Entry applicant can do to increase his/her chances of admission is to get involved in extracurricular activities or get additional certificates and prepare best for the interview

My brother has had an experience with both campuses and claims that both colleges are unique in their own aspects. Some major differences between the two campuses are

  • The Mohali campus has better infrastructure owing to its recent construction. It’s decked with modern world-class facilities and is more advanced in comparison to the Hyderabad campus.
  • The Mohali campus is located in North and has better food varieties
  • The batch size is small at the Mohali campus thereby reducing the competition tremendously.
  • Sometimes the faculty for the same courses is different across the two campuses owing to their availability and other external factors.
  • The Mohali campus has a more relaxed atmosphere than the Hyderabad campus as it is near Chandigarh. Hyderabad campus is always bustling due to the presence of a larger workforce, and colleges.

Rather than choosing the campus, make the best out of whatever is available to you.

When applying to ISB, you will not have the option to choose between the campuses in Hyderabad or Mohali. Instead, you will have the opportunity to indicate your campus preference during the application process, but it should be noted that ISB may or may not take this into consideration. This is done in order to maintain equality between the two campuses so that neither campus students feel like they are at a disadvantage.

While in rare cases, ISB may take your specific location preference into consideration, it is highly unlikely. It should be noted that even in cases where requests for campus change have been made for reasons such as family or health, ISB has denied such requests. This is a reflection of the diverse student body that ISB attracts.

Firstly it's not up to you to choose Hyderabad or Mohali. You can just apply to ISB and the campus is allotted on the basis of a strange algorithm.

Now coming back to the question of your chances of getting into ISB, it seems I know nothing about your profile. I will state some general points regarding ISB Hyderabad admissions

  • The first and foremost requirement is entrance exams like GMAT and GRE. The average is around 710 for GMAT and 325 for GRE.
  • You need a minimum of 2 years of work experience
  • You require and Letter of Recommendation and introspective essays
  • You need to feel a comprehensive application form that attracts the judges

More than work experience, the quality of your work and achievements matter more. While writing the essays mention the unique qualities and roles you have fulfilled in life.

It’s hard to draw a differentiating line between the two campuses.

Peer Group:

The admission committee selects the incoming class and distributes it across the two campuses. So, you will get a similar peer group at both campuses.

Placements:

ISB Hyderabad and ISB Mohali conduct placements as a single school. Fore placements, students of one campus fly down to another. Students also don’t mention their campus on their CV. ISB Mohali placements 2022 had an average CTC of INR 34.07 LPA.

Education:

The quality of education and pedagogy are the same for both campuses. The faculties shuffle between the campuses and there are guest faculties from reputed B-Schools like MIT, Kellogg, LBS, etc.

At ISB Mohali, you will get almost the same academic experience as ISB Hyderabad.
