- French is the study of French language and linguistics, as well as of the cultures and literatures of francophone countries or areas, with particular emphasis on France and francophones in Canada. Students majoring in French may choose to concentrate their studies in the area of language or literature.
- They may also qualify for the designation "bilingual mention" by taking between 40% and 60% of their courses in French, including at least two courses from teaching departments other than French and the Faculty of Education. A Bachelor of Arts in French may be the starting point for careers in education, translation, international relations, or any other area where knowledge of French would be an asset.
