Urban design focuses on the space between buildings, improving on the context the buildings provide to make spaces that are attractive, usable, safe, enhance community and draw people to them. These are the areas experienced on a daily basis by residents, workers, shoppers and visitors. Urban design applies tried and tested approaches to the design and improvement of:
- streets and circulation spaces
- public squares and meeting places
- pedestrian areas
- semi private space around buildings.
Within the broad context of urban development and planning, the Master of Planning (Urban Design) prepares graduates to understand how to design better places and spaces.
